Construction Training Fund (CTF)

Construction Training Fund (CTF) provides funding for upskilling and short-course training for people who work in construction and want to future-proof their jobs. The Upskilling & Short Course Funding program is designed to help diversify your expertise and build a safer and more sustainable future for you and the community. To be eligible for funding for your construction short course and training, choose an approved short course offered by a registered training organisation (RTO) under our Upskilling & Short Course Funding program.

CTF rebates cover up to 70% of the cost of training courses. You can claim a rebate for as many approved courses as you complete, providing they fall under the required categories.

Construction Training Fund provides funding for a wide range of construction training courses across a diverse collection of sectors. The eligibility requirements include:

  • The course being delivered face-to-face or in person within WA*

  • A registered training organisation (RTO) being the one to deliver the course

  • The course being fully paid and the participant passing as competent 

  • The participant demonstrating primary and substantial employment in construction

Eligibility

CTF’s upskilling and short course rebates are claimable by workers in the Western Australian building and construction industry. Your eligibility for funding will depend on your ability to demonstrate primary and substantial, direct involvement in relevant projects in Western Australia’s construction industry. Specifically, this includes on-site construction, installation and/or fabrication activities. Eligible companies/individuals must be:

  • Directly employed in the building and construction industry in Western Australia.

  • Construction companies undertaking projects in Western Australia.

  • Self-employed and undertaking work which is directly involved in the construction process.

Where eligibility of an applicant is in question the Training Fund will seek evidence of eligibility via review of a detailed, recent work history and/or evidence of employment.

Eligibility for unemployed participants

If an individual is unemployed at the time of undertaking a CTF-recognised short course, they must be able to:

  • Demonstrate that since the training, they have secured employment/work in WA’s construction industry. This evidence must be provided within 12 months of completing the training.

  • Have written evidence of a relevant offer of employment (including commencement date) from an eligible construction company or contractor for direct employment in the construction industry.         

Unemployed participants may be required to provide additional documentation to assist us with processing the claim

NOT Eligible 

Who is not eligible for CTF grants, subsidies or additional benefits?

  • Local, State and Commonwealth Government departments, agencies, corporations and their employees.

  • Companies and individuals:

    • Engaged in exploration for resources (minerals, oil and gas) or construction work associated with resources exploration.

    • That perform resources operational works.

    • Engaged in decommissioning resources facilities.

    • Engaged in rehabilitation of resources operations.

    • That manufacture, supply, transport or deliver building products.

    • That manufacture, supply, deliver or install non-building products.

    • That provide maintenance or repairs of a minor or routine nature after the construction phase, including companies that perform minor maintenance, repairs and/or inspection of elevators and escalators.

  • Carpet laying or floor covering companies and contractors.

How to make a CTF claim

If you’re eligible, you can claim the Upskilling & Short Course Funding rebate directly from CTF using the link below. Claims must be received by our team within twelve months of course completion.

You will be asked to provide information relevant to claim assessment throughout the claim process. Please also ensure you have the following documentation ready to upload to your claim:

For Individuals:

  • Proof of course payment (Invoice showing “paid” status must be from a Registered Training Organisation)

  • Proof of successful course completion (statement/certificate of attainment)

For Employers:

  • Proof of course payment (Invoice showing “paid” status must be from a Registered Training Organisation)

  • Proof of successful course completion (statement/certificate of attainment)

  • Upon claim approval, you will be asked to submit an Invoice to CTF for the rebate amount
